Another top 10 in Belgium

Another whirlwind trip to Belgium, this time for the Willi Naessens GP at Wortegem Petegem, a very well supported, long standing 84km Kermesse.

With our friends from Cycling Legends Media all in attendance for support and sharing in the vibe, Abby, Beth, Amelia, Erin and Freya joined 130 others in the warm sun. The usual early attacks all came to nothing as the bunch were full of energy, which showed in the 40kph+ laps. At half distance, Monica Greenwood clipped off the front solo, getting a good 30s lead. Jo Tindley set after her, with Abby quick to respond with 1 other, making 4 up the road slowly gaining an advantage. AG Soudal saw they had to do something about this and fired off 4 riders in chase, joined by 3 from Jayco and 2 Fenix riders, quite the roll call in this quality field. 12 in total worked well, Abby doing her bit in good company. The gap hovered at less that 30s for a couple of laps, then with 3 to go, increased to over 1m30, this was the race winning break. A bit of jockeying, a couple of tentative moves, but it would come down to a sprint. AG Soudal played it for their sprinter, and duly won, Abby got slightly boxed and came home an excellent 10th in an excellent field, continuing her very good run of form; " I really like this style of racing" was her immediate, and justified first response!

Erin, Beth and Amelia all safely in the reduced bunch, Amelia getting her first finish in a kermesse, a fine achievemnt in a very alien environment compared to her track racing home, great riding. Freya twinged a back issue at half distance, best to be safe than sorry, there's plenty of more to come.

All in all, a very successful, quick trip for a very good race once again.

Next up , Lincoln GP in the UK, which should be eneormous fun.
